The DMB Pro+ movie poster player depends heavily on your home wired or wireless network, and your TV display to operate at it’s best. Some users have reported messages popping up on the TV screen and on your app on your browser. Here is a breakdown and explanation of some common reports and fixes.
1) When connecting my DMB to a Samsung The Frame TV the image is rotated incorrectly on the TV. How do I fix this?
Answer: The Samsung The Frame TV will internally rotate all inputs because it is expecting a landscape input. This is NOT a DMB issue. To resolve this you must rename your TV HDMI input that the DMB is connected to to “PC”. This is done in a variety of ways depending on the model and year Frame TV you have but typically can be renamed by pressing the HOME button on the Samsung TV remote control and highlighting the correct HDMI input then pressing UP or DOWN (depends on the year and model) and selecting PC in the shown options. Next power off the TV then power back on. You may also need to unplug the HDMI cable from the Samsung TV input and plugging it back in. The image should now be corrected.
2) I can’t see any 4K video banners in my DMB app. All images in my BANNERS MENU show up as broken place holders. The only banners I can see are the .GIF banners, but no 4K video banners.
Answer: This is caused by your browser settings and/or your PC anti virus software thinking the video banners are pop-ups and block them. This is not a DMB issue. You will need to allow pop-ups in your browser settings, as well as making sure any other settings in your PC or MAC are set to allow all traffic from the DMB. Clear your browser cache as well. Apple has the most issues but I have seen this on some PC browsers as well. Chrome browser works best.
3) I turned on my movie board and I get this Connect to wi-fi dialog box on screen. What do I do?
Answer: This dialog pops up because at some point your router rebooted itself and the DMB lost internet connection. Your router rebooting can happen for many reasons… a power outage, a system update from your ISP, a power surge, etc. The solution is simple… make sure your router is on and working correctly and then reboot the DMB. Upon reboot the message should disappear.
4) Almost every time I turn on my TV i see this on my screen and I have to reboot the DMB to make it go away. How do I correct this?
Answer: The DMB should stay powered ON all the time (with only an occasional monthly reboot). This way when you power on your TV the DMB is already showing posters. But on some Samsung TV’s (I’ve not had reports of any other brand TV with this issue) the HDMI circuits will “go to sleep or power off” when the TV is powered OFF and the signal to the DMB gets broken. The DMB then goes into sleep mode. This is a Samsung issue. Not all Samsung TV’s experience this issue, and this does not happen all the time either. It’s pretty random and only happens for Samsung. I have had a few users reach out with a possible solution that may or may not work. By adding a small HDMI EDID Dongle available from Amazon for cheap they have reported the issue solved. This is NOT a permanent fix and may or may not work so purchase at your discretion. Attach the dongle to the HDMI cable from the DMB and attach to your HDMI input of the TV. Also make sure ALL smart and HDMI CEC control functions are turned OFF from the TV menu settings.
5) When I turned on my DMB I got this message on the movie board. It says it’s a “500 error: exceeded amount of 60 seconds”.
Answer: When the DMB is booting up and you see several flashes of screens on the TV (black, grey, then white) in the background it is waiting for the router to assign it an IP address. It waits for 60 seconds and if not given an IP address it will error out telling you. Many routers can quickly assign IP addresses when they detect a device on the network. Other routers are slower at this. To resolve this just reboot the DMB and on power up the router will have already taken notice of the DMB and given it the IP address.
- I have one or more DMB units that have this message showing on the screen even though I’m connected via hardline. How do I connect my DMB?
Answer: This is a multi-answer answer. The DMB is not seeing your network. The most obvious is that maybe the cable connection is faulty and/or it is not connected to your router. Check the plugs and make sure they are secure.
The other reason is complicated. The DMB at startup needs to output both the hardline connection AND the wi-fi connection as a hotspot. It does this because some users will connect via hardline and others will connect via wi-fi. The DMB hotspot allows the user to connect to the DMB when no hardline is available and enter their wi-fi creds so they can connect their DMB to wi-fi. At startup the DMB outputs both the wi-fi hotspot and the LAN is active. In multi DMB installations the router can get confused about which unit it is trying to add to the network since it already sees the other units on the network. To add multiple DMB units to your network either via wi-fi or hardline the preferred method is to add each unit one by one. Add the 1st unit and when it successfully gets a valid IP address from your router power off the DMB and connect the 2nd unit. Do this individually for all DMB units so that the router knows it is adding multiple units. After adding them this way the router will have assigned each of them valid IP address and should retain those settings. It is also very important that if you are connected via hardline to DISABLE WI-FI in the NETWORK SETTINGS. This will turn off the DMB hotspot to prevent network takeovers (see next section).
7) The DMB seems to be hijacking my network and causing my devices to drop off. What gives?
Answer: This issue only happens when connected via hardline. The DMB hotspot is ON in the DMB. Please disable wi-fi in the network settings.
The DMB hotspot is required to be ON for users connecting to their wi-fi network. It creates a way for the user to connect his phone via wi-fi direct to the DMB so they can enter their wi-fi creds. If the wi-fi hotspot is left ON when using a hardline connection other devices on your network can get confused about what they should be connecting to… the router or the DMB. Please disable WI-FI in the NETWORK SETTINGS when hardline to avoid these problems. When connect wi-fi no setting changes are needed.
8) You’ve connected your DMB to your mesh network access point such as Eeros, Orbi, etc and now you get a message like this on your movie board and you can’t access the app anymore.
Answer: This is another extremely complicated answer that I will only touch on here.
The DMB requires not only internet access but also clear unrestricted access to your devices on your network - phone, laptop, pc. Just because your devices have internet access does not mean they can communicate with other devices on your network. Most all wi-fi extenders have turn ON by default built in routers… in addition to your ISP main router. Any device connected to these access points will be given not just internet access but also an IP address that is different from the other extenders and your ISP main router. This is why you can’t access the DMB app on your phone or laptop… because they are all connected to various access points and have been assign different IP address. In order to fix this you must turn off all routing functions on all your access points and make sure they only act as wi-fi extenders. You should only have 1 router in your network and it should be your main ISP router. Not turning off the access points routers, or not having them set up correctly can, and will cause problems when trying to access your DMB app.
Also when you have multiple access points keep in mind that their wi-fi signal is not a perfect sphere radiating from the access point at all times. In reality the signal is more like a pulsating glob that shrinks and grows all the time for various reasons. One day your DMB may connect to AP1 because at that time it had the strongest signal, and then you may find that it no longer connects to that AP because another AP2 signal is stronger and forcing the DMB to connect to that one. Bottom line is access points are great but MUST be set up correctly to work well with the DMB. We are not network guru’s and can only offer limited support on this. You should hire a local network export to correctly set up your wi-fi access points.
9) My Kaleidescape, R_volution, or Plex player are not pulling up the Now Playing movie poster anymore.
Answer: In the player plugin section of the DMB app remove the player from the plugin by clicking on the red X and then add it back in. The players have timed limits that will turn off connection to other sources if not used for extended periods. Also make sure you have the Now Playing Detection box checked. Add a custom Now Playing banner to top off awesomeness.
10) When scanning my movie poster library with the Poster Vault some of my movies were not scanned properly or at all. Some posters report back as failed or failed to import trailer.
Answer: The Poster Vault is an extremely powerful and advanced feature that will take the name of the movie poster and search the entire internet from various sources to pull in and aggregate a ton of information like better posters, actors, directors, movie summary, movie trailer, and more. It does this by comparing the poster name in your library with various online sources. It is very important for the original poster name on your player to be accurate. Also some sources, for whatever reasons, may not have all the information for a particular movie. The results of the Poster Vault accuracy is about 95% accurate with the rest being inaccurate poster names or 3rd party issues. You can, however manually add any information missing or not grabbed by the Poster Vault to any movie poster in your DMB library. You can do this by accessing the DMB Editor from the Media Manager - - - Poster Folder - - - select the 3 dots on the far right of the folder and select Edit.
I hope this clears up some common questions and that you’ve gained a little knowledge about how the awesome DMB Pro+ works.
